Outsourcing fast food orders: If you pull into the drive-through lane at one of the McDonald's near Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the person taking your order is actually working at a call center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For reasons not immediately clear to me, this is supposedly cheaper, faster and more accurate than the traditional method of taking orders, and according to the article, "People picking up their burgers never know that their order traverses two states and bounces back before they can even start driving to the pickup window".
